Maturing socially & emotionally

The third year is marked by an intense interest in the arts, cultural areas, mathematics and language.  Children enjoy more abstract mathematics activities involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and they confidently begin to read everything from one word labels to books.

They begin to write their own ideas down on paper whilst learning about the basics of English grammar and confidently share these writings with others.

They show an ability to accept responsibility, cooperate with peers, be independent of the adult and further develop their leadership qualities through mentoring the younger children.

The third year child spontaneously will care for their classroom environment and demonstrate concern and compassion for others.  The child matures socially and emotionally and acquires the basic skills to begin elementary research in science, zoology, biology and geography.
